Hacker Behind DerpTroolling Arrested?
With hacking and DDOSing increasingly becoming a hot topic of discussion - and indeed subject of much litigation - those who do not view people partaking in such activities as simple mischief makers can rejoice. It seems that one of the more prominent practitioners has been arrested following an FBI investigation. Or at least that's how it appears.
Many of you will remember December last year when the group / individual referred to as "Derp" or "Derp Trolling" hacked popular League of Legends streamer James "Phantoml0rd" Vargas, prompting someone to give out his personal details, which lead to him being arrested after someone prank called police to tell them that there was a hostage situation at his home address. Vargas, who was heavily criticised for "encouraging" the hacking activities, streamed their escapades and this had the knock on effect of disruptions to Dota 2, Quake Live, Club Penguin as well as other clients such as EA Origin and Battle.net.
Now it seems that at least one of the perpetrators, using the Twitter account @DerpTrooling, has been raided and arrested. A fellow hacker, referring to himself as Sam Bin Laden or Recks, posted on the Twitter account that the person behind Derp Troolling had been arrested and was communicating with some of his recent victims surrounding the matter, promising more information in private. Publicly he posted the following:
So, you all know that the twitter account @DerpTroolling is being ran by me (@Recks). This is because, DerpTroolling was arrested. I can't say much about the raid, but I know that he was raided and arrested. I believe he was released and gave me access to his twitter account and just vanished. From there, I have no clue on what happened.
So, you're all asking what's going to happen now? People have been asking, are you going to ddos like Derp? From what I know, I don't ddos anymore. So, that's it really. Also, the twitter account @DerpTrolling, I have no idea what happened to that. I think that twitter locked them out, or they also got raided for the ddos attacks that occurred at that time. I'm guessing this is the end of DerpTroolling/DerpTrolling. I'll still be around, so yeah.
My main twitter is @Recks, the DerpTroolling account is probably for juice or RTs or whatever. Also, people have been asking me about @UG. I don't think they're coming back, from what I know, DerpTroolling doesn't work with UGNazi anymore. So, don't ask me shit about UGNazi or DerpTroolling, because it's dead.
While details around the arrest and upcoming case are sketchy it does indeed seem that at least one disruptive influence in the land of online gaming has been taken down. Connections between Derp and Derp Trolling also aren't clear, but there seems to have been communications that link the accounts. This arrest comes not long after the person allegedly behind the lolip-op.com website that was enabling LoL players to DDOS fellow competitors was arrested following an investigation into his online activities.
