The International 2024 (TI13) Announced

Mush 2024-03-10 05:27:35

The International 2024 (TI13) has been announced by Valve. This year's edition of Dota 2's biggest tournament is returning to Europe for the first time in ages, and the hype is real. Here's what's known so far.

TI13 Location

The International 2024 is headed to Copenhagen, the first time the tournament is hosted in Europe since 2011, TI's first ever edition, which was held in Cologne.

The arena that's been chosen to host TI13 is Copenhange's Royal Arena, which has been the stage of many a Counter-Strike tournament hosted by Blast.

When is it happening?

TI13 is happening in September of 2024, with more specific details yet to come.  TI12 took place during the majority of October of 2023, so we'll probably see something similar with this year's edition.

How do teams make it into TI13?

With the end of the Dota Pro Circuit, TI13's qualification process is apparently retuning to "how invitations worked for the first few years of The International". As per Valve's announcement, teams will make it to The International 2024 through "open qualifiers, regional qualifiers, and direct invitations". Sixteen teams will make it to the tournament, four less than the twenty we saw last year. TI13's invited teams will supposedly be chosen "based on team performance". The announcement mentions that the more open a tournament is, the more weight it will have. "cross-regional tournaments generate more useful data than intra-regional (...)". We're not sure at this moment if Valve will specify this further.

The return of Midas Mode?

With rumors swirling around, Valve addressed directly the conversations around a return of Midas Mode. If you're not familiar with it, this was an initiative started by Moonduck. It was an international tournament where teams faced unusual challenges with a ton of weird rules that are outside of the norm for Dota 2. With all the prize money going to charity, it was a great way to use the community to raise money for good causes. We might see a third edition of this tournament before TI13.
