Angry Titans’ ONIGOD on the EU Grand Final: “The meta suits us well, but I think it wouldn’t matter which metagame it was.”

  Formerly the DPS star on teams like Toronto Esports and REUNITED, Stefan "ONIGOD" Fiskerstrand now finds himself apart of the Norwegian Overwatch World Cup team and more importantly, in the grand final of Overwatch Contenders EU Season 2. Before he and the Angry Titans roll forward into their match against Eagle Gaming, ONIGOD sat down with Esports Heaven to discuss how effective support staff can be, his taste in anime, and his thoughts on the lack of third-party support and how it could affect the Overwatch League. _____ In your previous teams, you’ve been public in saying that you’re generally a fairly quiet person and don’t communicate that often. What are techniques or tips you could give to people who suffer from that same issue? How did you find your ‘voice?’ I think it's different in every team, some teams might want you to communicate in a different way. A big thing that helps is don't be afraid to make calls, speak what's on your mind. If its a bad call, it’s okay, scrims are to learn, not to win. If you keep making wrong calls, I’m sure your team would let you know. Just ask for feedback. As a player, you’ve been around the block in terms of experiencing different coaches, analysts, and even teammates and fairly recently Angry Titans added head coach Mike "Packing10" Szklanny. First, how have you enjoyed your time with him as head coach? Packing10 is the best coach I have ever had the pleasure of working with. After only a week we could notice a huge difference in our team and we could really feel the impact of what having a good coach feels like. He also has a lot of life advice in general, not only game related.

  Second, in your eyes, what are some aspects that you look for in a coach? I think a coach should be able to notice mistakes your team might not notice, and come up with solutions to fix them with us. It's also good if the coach can come in for a small pep-talk when things aren't going too well and make us focus in the right direction. Your team, Angry Titans, are gearing up for the big finale against Eagle Gaming. Did you all expect them to advance over last season’s second place team, Team Gigantti? I think we all knew it could be anyone's games. We already knew that if you let Eagle Gaming play their tank game you are going to have a bad time. But no, I think we expected Gigantti to win. How are things shaping out with the metagame for your team, do you think this iteration of the game suits you all fairly well? The meta suits us well, but I think it wouldn't matter which metagame it was. We are an overall strong team, in my opinion. We have success with full dive, Orisa compositions, tank compositions or whatever we want to play. If you could, give me three keys to victory for an Angry Titans win. What are three things that need to happen to see the Titans walk home the Overwatch Contenders EU champions? Playing our game and not letting them play theirs. Noticing their weaknesses and exploiting it. Controlling the tempo. Now, I know you to be quite the avid anime fan. I’ll put you on the spot: name me your top three anime and why they’re so special to you. Honestly, this is the hardest question I get. I actually can't answer, there's too much good anime to make a top three. Come back in a year when I have prepared myself enough to answer this. In just a few short weeks you’ll be headed across the pond to compete in the Los Angeles Qualifier for the Overwatch World Cup 2018. What would it mean to you to make it to BlizzCon wrapped in a Norwegian flag? It would be the first time Norway made it to BlizzCon, so personally, it would make me incredibly proud of myself and the team for making it that proving everyone wrong about us. It would also mean a lot for the Norwegian Overwatch community as a whole. Many people look at the World Cup as a chance to showcase their skills on a very large stage. We’ve even seen teams being brought together or, at the very least, influenced by the World Cup. Do you think that the World Cup has done a better job at scouting talent over Overwatch Contenders? It's hard to tell. World Cup definitely has more exposure than Contenders, but I think it would make sense to scout for players in top teams in Contenders because they have proved they are able to play at a high level. Now that the Overwatch League season is coming to a close, do you think it will be important for Overwatch to host smaller third-party tournaments in the offseason? Perhaps even pitting some of the best of Overwatch Contenders and some of the Overwatch League teams against one another? Do you think that’d help with the Contenders scene as a whole? Overwatch definitely lacks third-party tournaments, but I don't think we will see the Overwatch League versus Contenders anytime soon. I do think that it would bring a lot of exposure towards Contenders, but if an Overwatch League team lost against a Contenders team it wouldn't look good publically and people would be questioning about the skill of teams in [the League.] _____ Joseph “Volamel” Franco has followed esports since the MLGs of 2006.
