Evil Geniuses qualifies for The International 2023 and is the third team after Team Liquid and Gaimin Gladiators to do so. The organization hasn't missed a TI since 2013 and managed to repeat the feat yet again, but this time with a completely new roster.  

Is new blood paying off?

  The Peruvian/Bolivian mixed squad, with players acquired from both beastcoast and Thunder Awaken, marked the organization's switch to a South American focus after years of the beloved roster with the Artour "Arteezy" Babaev,  Tal "Fly" Aizik and Andreas "Cr1t-" Nielsen core (the core who now plays for Shopify Rebellion). The 5 man roster, which was acquired in November of last year, is all made up of returning TI attendants. Jean Pierre "Chris Luck" Salazar and  Adrián "Wisper" Dobles attended the previous two editions under the beastcoast banner, while Crhistian "Pakazs" Savina, Farith "Matthew" Puente and Jose "Panda" Padilla were present only for the 2022 edition playing for Thunder Awaken.

  The EG organization hasn't won any tournaments yet with this recent line-up, but they've recently achieved an impressive top-four finish at the ESL One Berlin Major 2023, losing to the eventual runners-up in Team Liquid in the lower bracket. A 5th to 6th finish at Lima Major on their home soil and a 7th place elimination at DreamLeague Season 19 weren't ideal, but the team seems to be bouncing back and this qualification already gives them a lot of safety heading into the remainder of the Dota 2 year.

Evil Geniuses (EG) qualified for The International 2023 with a clean 6-0 spree at DPC SA 2023 Tour 3: Division 1. The team didn't drop a single game and have faced every opponent they can, with the exception of beastcoast. This result gives them a minimum of 300 DPC points secured in the tournament, which puts them comfortably ahead of the 1221-point threshold which ensures qualification at the moment. EG join Team Liquid and Gaimin Gladiators, the two most dominant teams of the year so far, as the first three teams to qualify for the biggest tournament in the Dota circuit.  

Is the new EG roster a success?

  A lot of fans were disappointed with the end of the classic EG roster era, but qualification for The International 2023 should put a lot of minds at ease. As a reminder, the tournament this year will return to Seattle after a six-year hiatus. The eighteen best teams in the world will battle for glory and for the ever-growing massive prize pool in front of thousands of fans at the Climate Pledge Arena. Can the year get even better for Evil Geniuses and give the organization a bit of respite in what have been a rough few months? The next big tournament on the horizon is Dreamhack's DreamLeague Season 20, which begins in a little more than a week. Has the shit of focus towards the South American region paid off for Evil Geniuses so far?
