Players to watch at Tekken World Tour 2023 Global Finals

Tekken World Tour 2023 Global Finals is packed with talented players. There are three returning TWT champions and twenty of the best Tekken 7 pros in the world. The players to watch at the tournament are essentially all twenty that are participating in it, but there's three you should keep an extra-attentive eye out for: Arslan "Arslan Ash" Siddique, Bae "Knee" Jae-min, Lim "Ulsan" Soo-hoon.

The Uncrowned King

Arslan Ash will go down as the best Tekken 7 player in the world regardless of the result of this tournament. He has just been too good for an impossibly long window of time.

He has won a seemingly endless list of tier one tournaments, including four Evolution Championship Series T7, when no one else has even gotten three. Most played characters:
  • Zafina
  • Kunimitsu
  • Kazumi
Siddique spearheaded the rise of Pakistan in the game and has won almost everything there is to win, except this exact tournament. Despite his success in most top tier competition throughout Tekken 7, Arslan has never won a TWT. Is the King ready to get his final crown?

The GOAT?

While Arslan sits comfortable as the uncontested King of Tekken 7, Knee sits in the biggest throne of them all as the greatest Tekken (franchise) player of all time.

He is the closest thing we have in real life to the actual King of The Iron Fist Tournament. He has won EVO championships in two different decades, has gotten tier win victories in three different games. Most played characters:
  • Feng
  • Steve
  • Devil Jin
Heading into his fourteenth year as a professional player, he is still considered one of the best, which is just unmatched longevity in most esports titles, let alone Tekken.

Much like Arslan, though, Knee has seen the Tekken World Tour title elude him. Seeing him pull this victory off would further cement his legacy as the GOAT and spice the Korean-Pakistani rivalry even more heading into Tekken 8.

The New Blood

As is the case in all sports, there comes a time where a change of guard happens. The old legends become just that, old, and promising stars begin to shine.

Ulsan is the brightest promise in South Korean Tekken. At 23 years old, he is a whopping fifteen years younger than Knee. For reference, he was only thirteen years old when Knee won his first EVO championship. Most played characters:
  • Bob
  • Feng
  • Kazumi
Despite having a much shorter career, he seems unfazed by the pressure of big Tekken 7 tournaments.  He has been winning them left and right in the past few months, and made a splash at EVO 2023 when he pushed Arslan Ash to his limits, before losing in the lower bracket against AO. While the two veterans are searching for a last jewel for their Tekken 7 crowns, young Ulsan is looking for his biggest victory yet. Is it time for the new stars to rise, or does the old guard still have a say in the matter?
