EU LCS: Week 4 Storylines

Howspiffing 2015-02-12 03:48:57

Welcome to my weekly European LCS column. Each week I’ll be taking a look at the most interesting storylines for you, the fans, to be keeping an eye on. Week four begins tomorrow, so here are my most interesting storylines to watch for the 4th week of the EU LCS.

By now we’ve all seen the drama that occurred over the last few weeks surrounded Meet Your Makers and their Mid laner ‘Kori’. Long story short for those who aren’t up to date, Kori feels as though he is owed payment, was denied this, left the team to try and join up with NA Challenger outfit ‘Roar’ and was threatened into coming back. Riot are expected to take action but at the time of writing we don’t know exactly what action that is.

Combine this incident with the fact that the team recently made an offer for now H2K support player ‘KaSing’ which was rejected, you have a fairly awkward and possibly negative atmosphere around the team. Nisbeth stays on the lineup, as the team is set to face Fnatic and Unicorns of Love, 2 matches that could prove extremely difficult. No one can say for sure how the team is coping with the issues that are plaguing them, and whether or not it’s effecting the teams practice and preparation as week 4 approaches.

With Fnatic still flying high from their unexpected success at the start of the season, it looks like MYM will struggle to pick up a victory here, though Fnatic’s loss against Unicorns of Love last week may provide some hope for MYM. Then again, it may be a bit of a downer, as MYM take on the Unicorns in their 2nd game of the week. Personally, I’m not banking on a good week for MYM, however the EU LCS often throws up some surprises, so hope is not lost entirely.

H2k Welcomes KaSing...by debuting him against 2 of the best teams in the LCS.

“Raymond ‘KaSing’ Tsang, welcome to the LCS...again! We’d love to ease you back into it but uh, we kind of have to face Elements and ROCCAT this week. Sorry bud”.

KaSing is back for his 2nd stint in the LCS as he joins up with H2K Gaming to replace the departing support player Voidle. H2K have had mixed success, with a 2-4 record so far putting them just barely above the bottom of the standings and on par with the faltering Gambit Gaming. So far the side has only been able to take victories of MYM (featuring Blizer) and GIANTS, while generally struggling against the upper echelons of the League, which is to be expected of a newly promoted Challenger team.

This doesn’t help them headed into week 4, and while KaSing may be a breath of fresh air for the side, it’s hard to imagine the player having enough of an impact to give them the quality to take down Elements and ROCCAT. Both teams had slow starts but have been slowly rising to the level we expected and should be capable of continuing their rise against H2K. Like I said before in the MYM section though, this is the EU LCS, It’s best of 1, and upsets do happen. H2K have strong solo laners, a hit and miss jungler, and a new look botlane. If there’s a time for this team to surprise people, it’s now.

Copenhagen Wolves: Will the hunters become the hunted?

Copenhagen Wolves have surprised a lot of fans by keeping up with some of the big boys in the European LCS. The outfit pinned for relegation every season now finds themselves 3-3 after 3 weeks. Victories over H2K, Gambit Gaming, and Unicorns of Love ensure that Copenhagen Wolves sit at the middle of the pack for now.

Week 4 sees the Wolves thrown into the Lions den, I mean I think Lions are better than Wolves? SK Gaming and Fnatic await the Wolves during week 4 and it’s time to see if progress has been made, or if they will be beaten into the ground and towards the bottom of the table. Admittedly, it’s hard to say 2 losses this week would be disastrous, since that is the most likely outcome, I’m more interested to see how the team will perform and if they pose any threat whatsoever.

The theme of the week 4 column has become quite apparent in that once again I will say that upsets do happen! SK Gaming in my eyes are way too far ahead in every area in and outside of the game to drop a game to Copenhagen Wolves, Fnatic however could be vulnerable. The surprising start from Fnatic came about due to a very hard to counter playstyle that they’ve been running in pretty much every game and revolves around a lot of roaming and map control from Yellowstar and Reignover, by now everyone knows it, and unless they’ve adapted some more themselves they face the risk of being ‘figured out’.

Predictions This is a new addition to this weekly column, I decided to throw my own opinions in for each game that will be played. Bear in mind I’m no dedicated analyst, just a guy that watches a lot of League of Legends, and within that the vast majority of it is European League of Legends.
