SK Telecom T1 Crush Origen"e;s Missing Miracle

Origen: a team bathed in “bad luck” all Worlds from getting a harsh group to getting SKT in the semifinals. They overcame one obstacle and crushed the Flash Wolves but had to hope for a miracle to even think about taking down SK Telecom T1 at Worlds this year.

This game was the closest we came to a David vs. Goliath story at Worlds this year. Even with Easyhoon starting, SKT is incredibly dominant and still hasn’t lost a game yet at Worlds, and they almost fell. To be accurate, they stumbled a bit. What’s that saying? If you can’t walk, you crawl. If you can’t crawl, then you get someone to carry you. Marin was the one who carried SKT back into the game. Don’t be misled -- SKT wasn’t getting crushed, but OG were in full momentum in the midgame, being the first team to not only take one inner turret, but all three inner turrets and the inhibitor turret off of SKT.

But Marin was having none of that and hit a massive powerspike on Fiora, not allowing a single person on Origen to take him down. The midgame was highlighted by key fights around Dragon and a successful Baron sneak by Origen, which allowed them to take so much ground off of SKT in the first place. But as stated, that didn’t last long, and SKT systematically split-pushed their way to dominance and sent OG back to the planning room for game 2.

Origen came out swinging at the start trying to shut down Marin before minions even spawned; however, despite how well Origen planned out their systematic disassembly of the king of top lane at Worlds this year, it was Wolf’s Tahm Kench who threw a rock into Origen’s cogs and completely crushed any hopes out of the European team from doing anything in this game. This game was a complete slaughterfest.

When you corner your prey, you bring out the big guns to ensure your victory, and subbing in Faker is the hunter’s equivalent to this series. If Origen didn’t stand a chance by the end of the second game with Easyhoon, they definitely didn’t stand a chance against SKT with Faker there. Origen at the least can be proud for struggling evenly and valiantly until it reached its breaking point. It was almost a repeat performance of game 2, and SKT put forth a convincing closing performance to the series, moving onto their second World Championship Grand Finals.
