Worlds 2015 Team profile – Origen

CaptainTim 2015-09-11 03:11:52

Entering from the challenger scene and shooting straight for the top of the standings, Origen exploded on the EU LCS scene and is the only team capable of challenging European powerhouses, Fnatic. After  making it to the finals, Origen were one game away from winning the EULCS Summer split, but fell short to the reigning defending champions, Fnatic. Since Origen had only gotten to the LCS in summer, they lacked the sufficient circuit points to automatically qualify for worlds, having to force their way through the regional qualifier to make it through to the worlds stage.

Top - Paul "sOAZ" Boyer

If you were to pick a word to describe sOAZ, the first to come to mind would be unpredictable. Aside from being pretty good at League of Legends, the top laner of Origen has one of the most enviable champion pools across all regions. Tanks, hard carries, mages, or even pseudo supports are of no difficulty for the French player to use. His quick adaptability has always netted him an advantage in terms of understanding how strong champions are and how to use them effectively. I’m not only referring to his Gankplank play against Fnatic (which is the best execution we’ve seen of the bilgewater scurge on the main stage), but in the past he was one of the players to pick up both Kha’Zix and Jayce as top lane fighters. He is very good in 1v1 standard lanes and decent at teamfighting. We can only really point to one flaw in his gameplay which isn’t entirely his: teleport timings. Most teleport timings work based on information given by the team as well as taking the decision to teleport when the enemy team has fully commited to their actions.

Jungle - Maurice "Amazing" Stuckenschneider

Solid mechanical play and a good enough champion pool for the meta we are in, Amazing has never truly disappointed during the summer split of LCS. While his play is by no means the most inspiring jungle play we’ve seen, it definitely is one of the most effective. Understanding the pressure in his lanes, Amazing has a good sense of vision and how to play around the lanes which are in Origen’s favor. Working side by side with mithy, these players are capable of nullifying the enemy jungler entirely with repeated invades to drop vision. It must be mentioned that their vision around objectives isn't the best, often having Amazing at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Mid - Enrique "xPeke" Cedeno Martinez

Taking a step back from his regular playstyle, xPeke has adopted the role of a low econ mid lane player. With either sOAZ carrying from the top lane or Niels carrying from the bottom lane, the legendary Spanish mid laner has found comfort in playing to his team’s strengths rather than his team playing to his personal strengths. While he’s not necessarily a utility only player, he has shown he's perfectly capable of carrying from the mid lane with very limited resources in comparison to other mid laners in the league. His calm and collected nature allows him to guide the team through stressful moments and has helped newcomer Niels and famed choker mithy overcome a lot of their nerves in very high pressure situations.

AD Carry - Jesper "Niels" Svenningsen

From unknown rookie to one of the best AD carries in EU, Niels seeks to bring his recently exposed talent to the Worlds scene. It becomes really hard to gauge players such as Amazing and Niels, not because of their individual play being stellar or lacking, but rather them being surrounded by a plethora of talent that enables them to play the game as they desire. That being said, we can’t take anything away from Niels’ individual performance this split. Taking either a supportive role or a hyper carry champion, Niels has continuously delivered when his team needed him to. Seldom was Niels ever behind during the laning phase, allowing him to have smooth transitions into the mid and late game with practically every marksman he played.

Support - Alfonso "Mithy" Aguirre Rodriguez

There might still be people who don’t know that Mithy was renowned as one of the best supports in EU during summer of 2013. Coming back after a year ban, Mithy was hand-picked by xPeke to be the support for the newly formed Origen. Over the weeks, the duo lane has demonstrated to be amongst the best EU has seen. Whether it's working with Amazing to drop wards in the enemy jungle or simply out laning their opponents, Mithy stands alongside KaSing and Yellowstar as top 3 supports in EU.

Player to look out for: Niels.

Qualifying for Worlds in your very first split of LCS can make any player nervous. Amazing, xPeke, sOAZ and mithy have all been to Worlds before and know first hand what they’re up against. For Niels, this challenge will be a test of his mental fortitude, whether or not the nerves will get to him during games. Origen has also been leaning towards giving Niels the resources he would require to carry games on champions such as Kalista, Tristana or Vayne. The pressure is on for this young Dane and his performance will be key for how far Origen can make it on the Worlds stage. Thankfully for this young marksman, he has one of the best personalities when it comes to calming down nerves in his team's captain, xPeke.

Conclusion:

Origen is a well versed team. They are capable of split pushing their way to victory, brute forcing down opponents, or meticulously sieging. The only flaws you can put on this team is mostly in terms of ward control and how their vision around objectives can be better. Aside from minor nit picking here and there as well some crazy engage choices, Origen is a team to look out for at worlds.
